CORNWALL FILM FESTIVAL UNRAVELS SOME OF THIS YEAR’S HIGHLIGHTS
With four months to go until the ninth annual Cornwall Film Festival, scheduled for 5-7 November at Falmouth’s Phoenix Cinema, plans are afoot for some fantastic screenings and workshops for Cornwall’s film fans.
As well as offering a veritable feast of Cornish films, the Festival has also managed to secure, three weeks before its UK release, the third film in the wildly popular Millennium trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. The first film, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, had its premiere screening to a packed audience at the Cornwall Film Festival in 2009.
The Festival will also present Mike Leigh’s acclaimed new film, Another Year, which competed for this year’s Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
An exciting and unique event for this year’s Cornwall Film Festival is a painting-on-film workshop, delivered by Unravel, the winners of the Royal College of Art's Deutsche Bank Award for Art 2010. This collective of RCA graduates aims to create a hand-painted 16mm film that will correlate in length with the 874 miles between John O'Groats and Land's End.
Members of the public, including families and children, will be invited to help paint the 16 hours of celluloid at workshops across the UK, culminating at the Cornwall Film Festival in November. These workshops will be free of charge and will run from 12 – 5pm at the Falmouth Art Gallery on Sunday 7th November.
Finally, and no less exciting, Board Shorts, the Cornwall Film Festival’s surf-film extravaganza, will be taking place on 25th September this year at Brea Farm in Sennen. Truro College is sponsoring this day-long event, which will include all manner of surf-film related treats, live music, food stalls and Skinners beer, as well as overnight camping.
